Jim and Susan Kohr

Pastor and Family:

I was born into a Navy family, and became accustomed to moving often. My parents took us to church faithfully, and I made a profession of faith at a young age. Throughout my teen years, I started having many doubts about my salvation. I tried burying them, yet they kept haunting me.

After high school, I joined the Navy. While stationed near Philadelphia I met Susan at a church college outing and within a year we were married.  She is truly a virtuous woman, a loving wife, and a godly mother.  I thank God for her.

The Navy then moved us to Cherry Point, North Carolina. While stationed there, God blessed us with two children. Shannon and Joshua both have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savoir, and have a desire to serve Him.

I was honorably discharged from the Navy and the Lord moved us to work at a church in Pennsylvania. After a few years we moved again to Lattimore, North Carolina to attend Ambassador Baptist College. It was my freshmen year at Ambassador I realized I had never put my faith and trust in Christ alone, and was saved. Soon afterwards I was baptized.

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
— Acts 20:24

Following college, we endeavored to go to the inner city of Charlotte, NC to plant churches.  God had other plans and directed us back to Havelock, NC where I served first as interim pastor and now as pastor of Freedom Baptist Church.  It is a privilege to be used in the service of the King.

God continues to do many great things at Freedom Baptist Church, and I pray you will consider visiting us soon.
